Lorrie Brown was elected to the Ventura City Council in November 2018.
Lorrie comes from a family that serves and has dedicated her career to public service. Her father is a Vietnam Airforce Veteran, her mother a retire Registered Nurse, her brother is a civil servant for military base and her son a former US Marine.
Brown held two non-partisan appointments. She was twice appointed to the Ventura County Women’s Economic Roundtable by Steve Bennett (2014-2017) and was an appointed member of the City of Ventura’s Downtown Parking Advisory Committee (2012-2014) . Lorrie was then elected to three partisan positions, first as Assembly District 37 Delegate (2016-2018), second as secretary of a County Central Committee (2016-2018) and third as E-Board member of a state Caucus (2018-2020).
In addition to serving as City Councilmember the last three and a half years, she is a public servant for the County of Ventura, working as a Care Coordinator for Whole Person Care. This work includes referring unhoused individuals for wrap-around services.
Lorrie raised her three sons in Ventura and has lived here since 1974. She recently lost her youngest son to gun violence and wants to honor his memory by never giving up, not quitting and staying in the fight - the fight for justice, the fight for equality and the fight to a sustainable quality of life here in Ventura.
As a native of Eastside Ventura Brown matriculated through all local schools, including local colleges. She received an AA in Bilingual Studies, a BA in Communications and an MA in Public Policy from California Lutheran University.
She began her career in public service as Project Management Lead for the City of Oxnard’s Community Development Department's redevelopment agency where she led economic development initiatives that supported small businesses and funded affordable housing.
Lorrie believes in future planning for a sustainable Ventura and currently serves as the Chair of the General Plan Committee, Co-chair of the Economic Development & Strategic Planning Committee. She also serves as the appointed delegate for the region to the Southern California Association of Governments. She is former Chair of the HOPES Committee (Housing Opportunities, Proactive Engagement, and Solutions), and former Co-chair of the Finance, Audit and Budget Committee.
Brown is proud to have accomplished introducing three new unprecedented policies, during her first term which were approved and adopted by council, addressing Diversity and Equity in city culture, Inclusion and Engagement of underserved communities and Rental Protections for our most vulnerable residents.
If you believe in progressive leadership, please help her finish the work she began.
